I know the smell of the parched earth when it drinks the first raindrops. The many years in diaspora haven't eroded the smell of African petrichor from my memory. I am distinctively African with a deep love for my African heritage .
Therefore, it was a great pleasure and privilege to have been commissioned by the Leeds Culture Trust to produce the first African festival in Leeds as part of the Leeds2023 Year of Culture. It was co-created with a group of equally passionate Africans who were enthusiastic to deliver a festival that would celebrate the rich and diverse cultures of Africa. We envisioned an event that would captivate the senses and showcase the beauty of the continent.-The Leeds International African Arts Festival (LIAAF 2023)

Months of meticulous planning and preparations ensued, as my team and I reached out to over 20 African communities scattered across Leeds. From the rhythmic beats of West Africa to the colourful traditions of East Africa, the rich historical blending of Arab, Berber, and Mediterranean influences of North Africa to Southern Africa's tapestry of traditions, we wanted to ensure that every region of Africa was represented at the festival.

The LIAAF which held from the 8th- 15th of July was successful. It platformed and showcased over 60 emerging artists in its debut.
Leveraging on the new partnerships built with over 10 corporate organisations, LIAAF aims to return even more grandly, drawing a larger crowd from diverse backgrounds, united by their love for Africa.
